Andrea Altiery faced body image issues like a lot of human beings have throughout their lives. A lot of us tend to struggle with what we wished we looked like versus our reality. We can change some things with exercise and proper nutrition, today we can even use surgery to accomplish what nature and our DNA didn't accomplish for us.
Andrea faced another dilemma though; she was born with two different colored eyes. Both vivid and pure in their hue. She had one sparkling green eye and a soothingly deep blue eye. As Andrea put it to me when we first met, "It's enchanting right Bob?" I replied, "That is a good way to put it for sure Andrea, enchanting."
Here is what Andrea Altiery conveyed to me. "When I turned thirteen guys started noticing me more and more, they all gushed about my eyes," "Enchanting they would say." "It bothered me for some time, but when I got up here and started dancing I decided to turn it on them," "Now I dance under the name of Enchantment," "I figured I would take advantage of what I have, plus I needed a great stage name," "What used to hurt me, now makes me smile."
I listen to her before I ask her, "What color eyes would you prefer Andrea?" Andrea replies, "Any color as long as they match, maybe just plain brown eyes," "Do you think I would look great with big, bottomless brown eye's Bob?" I respond, "Yeah I mean you would look great wearing an eye patch Andrea, and you know that." Her smile beams.
Andrea Altiery went to meet Robert Hansen to do a one-hour photo shoot on Wednesday, December 2, 1981. On Sunday, November 29th, Andrea Altiery told me she was meeting him at Carpentiers Lounge on Boniface Parkway. First, she needed to do some shopping at the nearby shopping mall before it closed to purchase a few accessories for the photo shoot. Then she was going to walk over to Carpentiers Lounge to meet him.
Andrea Altiery was a beautiful human being. She was a gentle woman with a rough edge that could mesmerize you instantly. The first time she took my hand my heart stopped. I became not only enchanted with her, but eternally captivated by her evocative essence.
Andrea, please keep dancing for all of eternity and dream on my friend.
RIP Andrea Altiery – Cherished Friend.
Bob, I am so sorry for the loss of your dear friend. First time I heard of Robert Hansen was when John Cusack played him in the movie Frozen Ground. This is a spine chilling, edge of your seat wonderfully written tribute to your beautiful friend. Bringing me right into the reality and atmosphere of Alaska's most terrifying years with a monstrous serial killer. Thank you for sharing Andrea's story with us and keeping her memory alive. Xo
